Great Western War XI

October 8-13, 2008

Enjoy our wonderful site with green lawns, shade trees, lake breezes, and big blue skies at the Buena Vista Aquatic Recreational Area, 13601 Ironbark Rd, Taft, CA 93268. It is an easy drive over the hill to a lovely park where we have a large lakeside area all to ourselves. (See on Google maps)

Volunteering

You've heard the old saying that "many hands make light work." Please consider donating a few hours of your time to volunteer at the war. In addition to helping to make it a memorable event you will earn a monetary donation to your favorite SCA territory. Contact the Lady Osanna de Fries, Volunteer Steward, volunteersatcaid-gww.org, for more information.

Chirurgeon

The Event Chirurgeon is in need of volunteers to staff Chirurgeon's Point. Whether you are a warranted Chirurgeon or not, we have a spot for you. Sign up early and receive a special GWW Chirurgeonate Guild token from the Event Chirurgeon when you report to duty. Lady Blase di Angelo, Chirugeon, chirurgeonatcaid-gww.org

Arts and Sciences

It is not too early to consider teaching a class or two at Great Western War XI. Last year we found the site to be most pleasant with grass, shade trees, and a beautiful view to inspire everyone. This year we will make it possible to spread a single class over several days, in order to give more time for the students to work on their project. Your class can be scheduled over two, three, or even four days, space permitting. Classes will also start a day earlier, on Wednesday and will run through Sunday. Remember! All instructors receive VOLUNTEER HOURS for teaching a class at A&S.

In addition, we call for musicians of every kind to join the Waits of Great Western War who will come together and musically support many aspects of the War. Lord Neuschal der Grau will be leading the group in practice and performance throughout the week.

If you are interested in teaching, please fill out the class proposal form, and email it to Lady Elyn de Haoucmore, Arts and Sciences Steward at artsatcaid-gww.org. Please note that the deadline for class submissions is August 10, 2008. Also note that as in the past, we will be providing the opportunity for pre-registration of classes via the GWW website.

Special Events

Planning a wedding or other special event at GWW XI? Do you want to host a tourney, party, or event that will be open to the general populace? Do you want a little more advertising for it? Please contact Lady Catherine Ainsdale of Lancashire, Special Events Steward, specialeventsatcaid-gww.org for details.

Notice to RV campers

Our use area of the park will not include any full hook up sites for RV campers. We can only provide dry camping spaces (no water, electricity, or sewer) in a paved or dirt lot. Dry RV sites can be reserved through GWW's normal Pre-Reg process. Dry RV campers will be allowed to use the dump station at the full hook up site (approx. 1 mile from the Dry lot).

If you require full RV hook ups you must contact Buena Vista Reservations directly at 661-868-7050 or visit their web site at http://www.co.kern.ca.us/parks/buena-vista.asp to make a PRIVATE reservation. This reservation WILL NOT include GWW site fees. Spaces are limited. The full hook up area at Buena Vista is approximately one and a half miles away from the war site via a park road. No transportation will be provided between the full hook up area and the war. Those with a private reservation with Buena Vista must enter the park for camping through the main gate entrance on Hwy 43 and you will be required to check in to GWW via our gate on Golf Course Rd.

Site Feedback from Last Year

Please take a moment, if you have not already, to provide us feedback on the new camping site in 2007 by completing the GWW X (2007) Site Survey.
