Arts and Sciences
The time for war approaches. A time of battle and a time for the Arts and Sciences as well. Think of the many things you have learned in the SCA and share them with your friends and SCA family: Teach a class at war! This year, it will be possible to hold class over several days, if you would like more time for your students to work on a project. A class may be scheduled to your preference of time and days. Remember, classes can start as early as Wednesday.
Contact Lady Elyn de Haoucmore, Arts and Sciences Steward at arts
caid-gww.org
to submit your class proposals. Deadline for submission
is August 10, 2008. Also, note that as in the past, we will be providing
the opportunity for pre-registration of classes via the GWW website. All instructors
receive volunteer hours for teaching a class at A&S.
Musicians and Special Events
A Collegium of Middle Eastern interests will be held in Duchess' Faizeh's camp with daily classes in costuming, dance and other facets of Middle Eastern life. This is a very special opportunity not to be missed.
Musicians, one and all, come join the Waytes of Great Western war. Lord Neuschal der Grau will be leading the group in practice and performance throught the week. See more information about Musicians and Special Performances with our Special Events information.
If you would like a musical performance at a special event, please contact
Lady Elyn de Haoucmore, Arts and Sciences Steward at arts

Call for Teachers for GWW XI
It is not too early to consider teaching a class or two at Great Western War XI. Last year we found the site to be most pleasant with grass, shade trees, and a beautiful view to inspire everyone. This year we will make it possible to spread a single class over several days, in order to give more time for the students to work on their project. Your class can be scheduled over two, three, or even four days, space permitting. Classes will also start a day earlier, on Wednesday and will run through Sunday. Remember! All instructors receive VOLUNTEER HOURS for teaching a class at A&S.
If you are interested in teaching, please complete either the
- GWW Arts and Sciences Class Proposal Online Submission Form or
- the GWW Arts and Sciences Class
Proposal PDF Form and send it to Lady Elyn de Haoucmore,
Arts and Sciences Steward at arts
caid-gww.org (mailing list on form).

Armorer's Round Table
Friday, After Fighting
Following fighting on Friday there will be an armorer's Round Table held in The Arts and Sciences area led by Baron Darius von Tannenberg. Armor enthusiasts will gather to discuss the past, present, and future SCA armor trends. Will plastic ever go away? Would properly fitted helmets see the demise of leather and chain mail "beards" on helmets that never would have had them in the first place? Every local group has someone that makes some armor, whether it's gambesons, chain mail, gorgets or basket hilts. The local guys who help other local people get into armor are invited to show off their recent work, display home-made armor tools and share their armoring tips and experiences with others. In this way the hobbyists and the full timers can work toward an ever increasingly period appearance for SCA fighters without breaking anyone's budget. The devil is in the details... Let's talk about the details.
